A Victorian style 1/2 pint measure designed by James Yates, famous pewterer from Birmingham England. A great example of an English tankard made in the mid to late 19th century.

This measure has a bulbous body style with a curved handle. There is a ridge around the middle with decorative lines around the body and foot, three ridges on top of handle. The pewter metal is a nice medium gray tone. Originally made for measure, not for drink.

Because pewter is a softer metal, marks are faded or worn from use. I can read "JAMES YATES", partially see "PINT" and a hallmark (crown or castle?) stamped on the rim to the left of the handle. Another mark can be seen below these, it looks to be the letters "S" and "C" within a circle, maybe the pub/owner/maker/city logo. On the opposite side under the rim are the letters "VR" (Victoria Reign) over "OM".  Measures
