19th Century French Louis XVI Neoclassical Mahogany Bookcase is a stately example of the revival of the ancient Greek and Roman architecture that has proved to be sublimely timeless! Straight, rectilinear lines are enhanced by a boldly molded arched crown centered on the bonnet above, carved in glorious full relief with laurel wreath and sprays held together by flowing ribbon. The body is accented by fine molded detailing with acanthus rosettes appearing at the top corners, and fluted pilasters with Doric capitals forming the framework that is the corner posts flanking the display area. Original mahogany-faced shelves are inside, set on adjustable shelf supports, and complete with two drawers at the bottom. The sheer natural beauty of the exotic imported mahogany is exquisite. Circa 1880s. Measures: 100" tall x 52" wide x 19" deep.
